| About us Helping to save lives in the community.. For every 1000 people in this area one person will die of a heart attack this year. Less than 5% will survive without resuscitation and defibrillation in the first 8 minutes. A First Responder scheme can change this statistic! Consett Primary Response Team (C.P.R.T) is a group of volunteers who have been trained to attend certain types of 999 call received by the North East Ambulance Service. This is not a replacement for the Ambulance service but can be a very timely extra response in cases such as Heart Attacks (Cardiac Arrest). On receipt of a 999 call, in Consett, the Ambulance Control Room will immediately dispatch the nearest Ambulance and also alert the C.P.R.T member on duty. In many cases the C.P.R.T member can arrive before the Ambulance (due to local knowledge or distance) and thanks to their training, can provide vital First Aid and even Defibrillation, in the case of Cardiac Arrest, before the Ambulance arrives. All of the members of C.P.R.T are local volunteers who give up some of their spare time to provide this service. They receive no payment or expenses of any kind. Training takes approximately 6 to 10 weeks, depending upon previous experience, and each member is expected to pass an assessment prior to becoming an active First Responder. Following initial training each member is reassessed every 90 days to ensure the required skill level is maintained. C.P.R.T depends upon local people and businesses to maintain this service, we are currently looking for sponsorship and/or donations to purchase additional equipment and to replace consumable items. Anyone interested in helping the scheme should contact Andrea Hough, Volunteer Co-Ordinator |
